A Rose on the Grave | M.P. Pellicer

Arlis Perry, 19, was murdered inside Stanford Memorial Church two weeks before Halloween, 1974. Her body was posed and mutilated in what appeared to be some type of ritual murder. Decades would pass before the identity of her killer would become known, however questions still lingered.

California, 1974

Arlis grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota and married her high school sweetheart Bruce D. Perry. Both of them attended the same high school and were popular students. Arlis was a cheerleader and Bruce, the son of Dr. Duncan Perry a dentist, had played sports. They both belonged to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. During his year as a freshman in Stanford, Bruce corresponded with his fiancée, and he came back home to tie the knot and return with his bride to continue his studies. They had an apartment at Quinnel Hall, a residence on the campus for married students.

A Devil Named Lemuel | M.P. Pellicer

Lemuel Smith was born into the least likely of bedeviled households on July 23, 1941. He was part of a strictly religious black family living in Amsterdam, New York. His father was a minister, and both of his parents lived in the household. There were no known reasons why Lemuel would have such a compulsion to kill, which according to him started as early as when he was twelve years old when he nearly smothered a nine-year-old girl to death.

The Smith household tasted grief prior to Lemuel's birth, when their son John Jr. died of encephalitis in 1939. Lemuel was the youngest of four children born to the couple.

He Said He Killed Her for Love | M.P. Pellicer

There are persons who are never meant to hold positions of trust, and Hans B. Schmidt was one of them. Some are just untrustworthy, others are deadly.

Hans B. Schmidt was born in in the Bavarian town of Aschaffenburg; one of ten children. His mother Gertrude was Catholic and his father Heinrich was Protestant, but it was probably the beatings he received at the hands of his father that shaped the man he would become. He also witnessed domestic violence between his parents, brought about because Heinrich did not want her to practice her faith. Perhaps it was also a deep streak of mental illness that ran in his family.

Serial Art | M.P. Pellicer

Why does death row inspire the artist in killers? The world may never know.

John Wayne Gacy spent 14 years on death row, before his final adieu. His artwork, if not for his name could be attributed to a grade schooler. After his execution in 1994, his pieces have increased in value. However it is a narrow audience that wants artwork produced by a hand that killed, sometimes in the most vicious and sadistic ways.

The Curse of the Clown | M.P. Pellicer

If eyes are windows to the soul, then what are paintings produced by a human? What if that human is a killer?

Many murderers have turned to producing art during the time they are incarcerated. Mostly the art is bad, and only the notoriety of their names brings it any attention. In some instances whether knowingly or subconsciously they give a glimpse into what feeds their souls.

The Devil Tree: Killing Ground for a Serial Killer

What else can you call a tree that's been tainted by the blood of innocent human beings? This 150 years old oak situated in a residential park in Port St. Lucie, Florida was a silent witness to the atrocities committed by serial killer Gerard Schaefer against two victims who he tortured and then buried under the tree.

More than forty years have passed since the skeletal remains of those teenage girls were recovered, but just as the years passed so did the tales of paranormal events and sightings of hooded figures increase.

How much of these tales are urban myth, and how much is the truth?
