No Such Thing as a Vampire and Another Dark Tale

Two stories of situations that should not exist in a normal world.

No Such Thing As A Vampire is a short story by Richard Matheson originally published in Playboy. It follows a Transylvanian doctor trying to prove vampires do not exist, even as his wife presents with classic vampire puncture marks, culminating in a psychological twist ending typical of his style.  The story was adapted as the second segment of the 1977 TV anthology film Dead of Night, directed by Dan Curtis and starring Patrick Macnee.

The Love Letter by Jack Finney is a short story about time travel. Jake, the main character, purchases an old desk rescued from an old Victorian house about to be demolished. A letter is
discovered in a "secret" compartment in the desk; this find leads Jake to write a reply, even though the letter was penned almost fifty years before. Unexpectedly and against the rules of time and space, the woman who should be long dead acknowledges his letter.
