Originally they lived in Central Europe, and moved westward before the advent of the Romans. They had no written language, and their art was mostly decorative, however they had a rich oral tradition. ​​Most of their history comes from other civilizations that came in contact with them. They were herders and hunters, and fearsome warriors.

In Appalachian culture a sure omen of death was something found in the pillows of those who were ill. It is a bizarre phenomenon known as feather crowns.


Different cultures have their version of premonitions of death. In Appalachia a circular crown or nest found in the pillows of those dying or recently dead are called Death Crowns. They point inward, and could only be found with feather pillows. In recent times, where pillows are made from synthetic fibers this phenomena has disappeared.

What would you do if your 8-year-old daughter was inspired by the movie The Omen, and waited with bated breath for the sequel titled Damien?


The girl's name was Kim Goytia, and she lived in Sacramento, California. When The Omen premiered in 1976, viewing the film kicked off a fascination with the devil. She went on to collect several copies of the novel, based on the screenplay. Two years later, the sequel Damien was released, and she was still enthralled with the dark side. According to her mother Carol Sommers, her daughter went goth before it became a thing, dressing in black, growling like an animal, and performing satanic rituals in her room.

The Business of Stolen Body Parts | M.P. Pellicer

Did a robber who broke into a truck parked in Denver's Central Park neighborhood realize they were making off with human remains?


In March, 2022, a medical truck used to transport body parts for medical research was considered not the usual mark for thieves. What was taken was a white carboard box measuring 20 x 15 x 18 inches marked with "Science Care" on the exterior which is the company that accepts bodies donated to science. There was another label “Exempt Human Specimen”. Inside the box were human heads.

It was Saturday, the day before Halloween, 1926, when Marvin Aaron Clark, one-time marshal from Linnton, Oregon, took a motor stage to Portland. He's never been seen since.


Clark was born in Iowa in 1852. Along with his wife Mary Ann Leach née Lewis, a young widow with two young children they ended up in Linnton, Oregon, where he worked as the marshal of the small lumber town.

Adults and Children Sacrificed to Serve in the Afterlife | M.P. Pellicer

In 2021, a mummified man was found in Peru, then a year later the remains of 20 sacrificed victims were discovered around him.


Cajamarquilla is an ancient city on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. The site is considered a pre-Hispanic mud city, which could have housed between 10,000 and 20,000 people in an area of 413 acres. It is here that the mummy of a man, bound in a fetal position was found inside a tomb. His age is estimated to be either in his 20s or 30s. He was dubbed "Chabelo".

The Black Canon of Lyons | M.P. Pellicer

In early 1893, Joseph-Antoine Boullan died. A defrocked priest, he was the head of a schismatic branch called the Church of the Carmel. He was also known as the Black Canon of Lyons.


Born in 1824, Boulan was ordained in 1848. He became a follower of Eugene Vintras, once a foreman in a cardboard box factory who claimed to be the reincarnation of Elijah.

Vintras founded two sects, the Work of Mercy and the Eliate Church of Carmel. He was dogged by rumors of demonic rituals and sexual excesses. In an 1846 pamphlet he was accused of homosexuality, conducting black masses in the nude and masturbating on the altar. He was condemned by the Pope, which would have made him a very unsuitable person for a Catholic priest to fraternize with.

Arshile Gorky (born Vostanik Manoug Adoian) is an Armenian American artist born in 1904, in a village on the shores of Lake Van in the Ottoman Empire (present day Turkey). His mother starved to death in 1919, while living in Yerevan, Armenia.
